Poppers in the airco!

February 8, 2010 in Lyrics, Productions, review.me by Freaking Wildchild

The storyline is about a guy sitting in a bar, having lots of fantasies and finding out to wake up in his bed alone, with an empty bottle of poppers in his airco! So .. Who put ‘m there?

Poppers in the airco!

Sitting in a local bar in Tahiti,
All warm, cozy, hot and steamy ..
Just ordered a Pina Colada at the bar,
At the nearest relaxing spot in the evening star…

There he was, a beautiful boy on the beach,
Anywhere but here and out of reach …
But I just ordered my drink at the cute girl of the bar,
Leaving now would probably leave a war!

Next, sitting comfortable in the lounge,
Cute girl and boy next to me on the comfy couch,
Got that chilled, fresh Pina Colada in my hands,
They look both at me, without knowing their plans!

Then, suddenly, everyone was getting naked,
Including the the boy, the girls, the boys, I must not be awaken!
This brought me a bit out of line,
And I haven’t been on the wine!

There I am, lying all sweaty on my bed,
The buzz is feeling all tingly in my head,
Can’t remember anything how I got here in the first place,
All alone, no naked cute boys and girls, That’s not ace!

I landed back in real harsh reality,
Suddenly, I left that buzz of pure fantasy,
Until I came to the realization,
Who the freak put those poppers in the ventilation?!

This song is currently under production; it might be neat to have a vocalist talking in this text with some aroused feeling.

Anyone talking English up for the job?

IDMix v2.1 – Rebirth – almost released!

October 28, 2009 in Creative Commons, IDM, Music Production, Productions, review.me by Freaking Wildchild

IDMix v2 - idmix.us – album (For your review!)

IDMix v2

IDMix v2

This album came floating from between heaven and the earth… It will take your mind to higher grounds with this eclectic set of deep, electronic and eclectic house, trance, techno and perhaps even lounge music. It’s not just a compilation but enriched with glitch, or in common terms; IDM which means Intelligent Dance Music which is the new era with vast possibilities of micro-resampling samples in different forms enriching the brain.. Freaking Wildchild was not convinced IDM should be used in DnB and minimalistic but got the glitch also included in deep trance, techno and other forms of deep electronic music created in his studio.

So, why version 2? Because version 1 never came out. It got only served as preview (v1.3) but never got released on physical media because of natural mayhem causing them to be stuck on broken machinery. Think version 1 as a gem which will be dug out when the time is ripe and when the equipment got fixed…

Release date: soon!

There will be 128kbit, shortened watermarked releases, legally available as download under the Creative Commons+ license. These versions will be available for non-commercial usage only! Mentally Challenged - seriexl.com -- serie (For your review!)

Mentally challenged is a mix of brainmatter, experimental experience and IDM live play. If you don’t know what IDM is, you should check out the article “IDM stands for Intelligent Dance Music“. It’s a small album of three songs which were not included on the IDMix.us version yet.

  • DirtIDM : You’ve got to listen for yourself before you can really define this style. It’s relaxing and energetic at the same time. It’s pure IDM, that’s for sure!
  1. DirtIDM has an audio-visual production called IDMovie
  2. DirtIDM Calypso Remix has also it’s own audio-visual presentation at YouTube
  3. The solo version is available as the SoloTramix at SoundCloud
  • Depressed: It’s a state which I’ve been confronted with lately, it defines what can be going on in a head; where IDM is a very nice starting point for a ADHD’r!
  • Mental Distortion: Do I got to say more?

The video is the Calypso remix of DirtIDM!

Rest in Peace, Michael Jackson!

June 27, 2009 in Rants, ohnoes by Freaking Wildchild

As a kid originating from 1976, I was shocked when the news came out. I was convinced this was a hoax. It could not be, one of the most famous superstars around the planet died? Till.. I hit google! Michael Joseph Jackson, born in Gary, Indiana at August 29, 1985; has died of a heartattack at June 25, 2009 in his rented home on North Carolwood Drive in the Holmby Hills area of Los Angeles.

Michael Jackson - RIP

Michael Jackson - RIP

There was not a single kid who didn’t like atleast one song or dance-move Michael Jackson made. He was known for his diversity of music and showbusiness all-together. He popularized moonwalking and robot dance techniques as no-one could do better! While Elvis is the king of Rock-n-Roll, Michael is the king of Pop. Already since the early 1980s, he combined showbusiness in such tight performance, with popular music videos such as “Billie Jean”, “Beat It” and “Thriller”.

His distinctive musical sound and voice influenced many hip-hop, pop and contemporary R&B artists, While Jackson was a member of Generation Jones; it has a huge impact on multiple generations and it probably will still be with the memories we have left; just like our parents are remembering Elvis in living form! In 1962 he had his first singing debut with his brothers called “The Jackson Five”. In 1969 The Jackson Five had their first succes with hits like “ABC” and “I’ll be there”.

The commercial music scene has lost one of the best quality show-business legends from the era; with his style, music and shows, unable to be copied by others. This music legend has sold more than 750 million records during his career according to US figures.

His history and discography as solo artist was enormous:

  • In 1972, Michael Jackson released a total of four solo studio albums with Motown. The Jackson 5’s sales, however, began declining in 1973, and the band members chafed under Motown’s strict refusal to allow them creative control or input. The Jackson 5’s left Motown in 1975 and signed a new contract with CBS Records in June 1975. As a result of legal proceedings, the group was renamed The Jacksons. The band has continued to tour internationally rleasing six more albums between 1976 and 1984. In this period, Michael Jackson was the lead songwriter of the group, writing hits such as “Shake your Body (Down to the Ground)”, “Can you Feel It?” and “This Place Hotel”.
  • In 1978 his solo career took off with producer Quincy Jones; when he needed someone with great experience, to get a different album sound from the Jacksons, who just had their biggest album succes with “Destiny”.
  • In August, 1979, his first music album has hit the billboards with “Off The Wall” which created his first breakthrough as adult solo artist.
  • 1982 gave birth to “Thriller“, also one of the most famous mini movies, costing more than $800.000 in production cost, written by Rod Temperton and Michael Jackson;
  • At 1987 Michael Jackson came out with “Bad“, a music album which wasn’t as succesful as Thriller was, but still has sold about 8 million copies around the world. The first five singles reached the number-one position of the billboards in the USA. The remastered version (Special Edition) has three bonus numbers called “Streetwalker”, “Todo Mi Amor Eres Tu” and “Fly Away”;
  • His eight album, released at November 26, 1991 called “Dangerous” was his second to debut at the Billboard 200 album charts where it spent the next four consecutive weeks. It has sold over 32 million copies worldwide and has won one Grammy for the Best Engineered Album. It’s the most succesful New Jack Swing album of all time.
  • In February, 1993; Michael Jackson gave a 90-minute interview with Oprah Winfrey talking about his childhood abuse and his first admitting of his skin condition called Vitiligo, a relative unknown condition before then. The interview was watched by 90 million americans, becoming the forth most-viewed non-sport program in US history.
  • Michael Jackson marries Lisa Marie Presley in 1994, daughter of Elvis Presley and divorces two years late;
  • History“, a double album, was created at June 20, 1995; containing 30 seongs with the first disk one “HIStory Begins” containing 15 of Michael’s number one hits and the second disk “HIStory Continues” containing 15 brand new songs, where 12 were composed by Michael himself. This album credited Michael for the first time with playing the keyboards, synthesizer, drums and percussion and guitar. The album was very controversial with many “Angry songs” as well with a softer edge with ballads like “You Are Not Alone”, “Earth Song”, “Stranger in Moscow” and “Smile”. The release was pulled from the shelves due to the controvercial lyrics in the song “They Don’t Care About Us”. New copies of the album were released with a formal apoligy written by Michael for those wo where offended by the lyrics.
  • In 1996, Michael Jackson marries Debbie Rows, mother of his first two children (known as Paris and Prince Jackson) and divorces three years later;
  • 2001 has brought “Invincible” while Michael Jackson has made birth to his third child, Prince Michael Jackson II (also known as Blanket) from a surrogate mother;
  • The Diamond Award was awarded on November 15, 2006, for selling over 100 million albums at the World Music Awards, shortly following with the death of James Brown. Michael also received eight records in the Guinness World Records, with among them “First Entertainer to Earn More Than 100 Million Dollars in a Year” and “Most succesful Entertainer of All Time“.
  • Jackson and Sony bought Famous Music LLC from among others.
  • To celebrate the 25th anniversary of Thriller, Jackson issued Thriller 25 containing original materials from the album, remixes, a DVD and the previously unreleased song “For All Time”. It became number one in eight countries and Europe. As of November 2008, US sales of Thriller 25 stood at 688,000 copies making it the best selling album of 2008 while it has sold over three million copies worldwide.
  • In 2008-2009, Jackson planned to make his come-back and had been scheduled to perform in 50 sold-out concerts to over one million people, at London’s O2 arena, from July 13, 2009 to March 6, 2010. He was planning to perform with his eldest son on stage.
  • Current, June 25, 2009, Jackson had a cardiac arrest in his home in LA. LAFD paramedics received a 911 call at 12:21 pm and arrived nine minutes later at Jackson’s location. Many hoaxes turn up around the web. Hours following Jackson’s death, his record sales increased dramatically. Thriller climbed to number one in the American iTunes music chart, while another eight have made into the top 40.
  • Less than four months before Jackson’s death, one of his biographers, Ian Halperin, Revealed that Jackson had a stash of 100 unreleased songs which he planned to release after his death to support his children.

If that isn’t an impressive biography from one of the most famous world stars in this era! I’ve got a dozen of vinyl records of Michael which for sure will be cared about with full dedication. While not being a superfan of Michael, I was for sure touched by more than a handful of songs; including but not limited to “Bad”, “Stranger in Moscow”, “Beat It”, “Thriller” and “Billie Jean”.

For rememberance, all MJ buttons and pictures of Michael Jackson in this blog article can be used by others, they are created with Public Domain images available on the net. The pictures are all transparant .PNG’s in various resolutions and designs. Please link back to this article to share these rememberance buttons around with your friends! An .SVG will be soon available for those who like to have it in (Inkscape) Vector format.

Rest in peace! You’ll be remembered Michael, by many, since you were a vast inspiration for many around the world as singer, businessman and show-guru!

Intelligent Dance Music (IDM)

June 19, 2009 in Gear, IDM, Productions by Freaking Wildchild

IDM, Glitch

IDM, Glitch

Oh noes! IDM is not an acronym for a super secret government agency, disease or drugs!  Or, maybe it is one or another kind of brian drug; just like playing cards, games, reading and listening music are brain drugs too! IDM is the acronym for Intelligent Dance Music; in short, the new rage curring up samples, repeats, distortions and glitches in the music. A style emerged in the early nineties which was described as electro, electronica and ambient techno. It gets you not only moving by your feet but also with your brain!

Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode, Leftfield, Aphex Twin and many more are known for their creations with glitches and sample-juggling to add colour to their productions. It makes music sound much more and detailed than it actually is.

Software VST plugins are currently the rage, a few examples:

CD-skipping glitches could be done by using a magic marker on a CD, recording that defected ceedee. IDM glitches can best be done manually, by searching the best possible sweet-spots for the wanted IDM effect.

I’ve not found any good “true” hardware IDM device yet, with exception of the out-of-production Frostwave Sonic Alienator, Geiger Counter, the SP-555 with loop sampling functions and the MachineDrum which is quite expensive but also a super-sequencer.

Group: idm +

More information and groups about IDM are at Wikipedia, Soundcloud, Indabamusic

So, which software or hardware do you use for your glitches?

Music Industry, wakeup call for alternative licensing!

March 7, 2009 in Common Rights, Creative Commons, Music Industry by Freaking Wildchild

Who says music can’t be free while creating value? Think twice, because NiN’s CC-Licensed album, Ghosts I-IV, has been one of the best selling albums of 2008! This while this album could be freely downloaded as Creative Commons release. This is clearly the evidence Creative Commons can cooperate perfectly together with other licensing; while NiN fans could have turned to any file sharing network to download the entire CC-BY-SA album legally.

Ghosts I-IV

Release timetable:

  • 2 march 2008: Released without any advertisement or notice
  • 4 march 2008: Extra servers were needed to handle the downloads
  • 1 week later: 750,000 download and purchase transactions have been reported
  • hitting #1 on Billboard’s electronic charts
  • 8 april 2008: Physical albums available through double CD & 4 LP set
  • 1 may 2008: Deluxe & Ultra Deluxe Limited Editions released

Release differences:

  • Ghosts I: free, containing the first 9 tracks (official website | BitTorrent)
  • Digital Release (Halo 26): $5, direct download, 40 page PDF book, digital extras, DRM free format.
  • Double CD (Halo 26 CD): $10, two audio cd’s and 16 page booklet with access to the Digital Release.
  • Vinyl release (Halo 26 V): $39, 4-LP vinyl set (heavy duty vinyl).
  • Deluxe Edition (Halo 26 DE): $75, Includes 2 audio cd’s, data DVD with multitrack files, Blu-ray disk with albums in 96khz stereo, slideshow, 48-page hardcover photobook and access to the Digital Release.
  • Ultra-Deluxe Limited Edition (Halo 26 LE): $300, Includes everything from the Deluxe Edition including the 4-LP set and 2 exclusive limited edition Giclee prints. Limited to 2500 pieces, signed by Trent Reznor. (sold out!)

One of the reasons is that fans understood that purchasing MP3s would directly support the artists they like. Another reason for those sales is because of the extensive features added to the pack. I’ve always been a firm believer the contents create the setting; which they sure did by releasing 4 different physical packages ranging from $10 to $300 for the Ultra-Deluxe Limited Edition which is a box with about eight exclusive additional features including two audio cd’s, a data DVD with multitrack files, Blu-ray disk with albums in 96khz, slideshows, 48-page hardcover photobook, direct access to the Digital Release, two limited Giclee prints and signed by the one and only Trent Reznor…

It has generated over $1.6 million in revenue in its first week and has received the critical acclaim and two Grammy nominations; so next time you’ll think Creative Commons hurts sales, think again about NiN! They’ve chosen an alternative distribution method which fits more to the common people, adapting to the new age of digital distribution. Maybe this could be the exact reason the music industry is afraid, of loosing control of the distribution market; because artists are still having troubles combining CC-licensing with draconian exclusive membership deals through their agency.

Thom Yorke, advices in the article about the Real Value of Music, “you don’t sign a huge record contract that strips you of all your digital rights, so that when you sell something on iTunes you get absolutely zero. That would be the first priority. If you’re an emerging artist, it must be frightening at the moment. Then again, I don’t see a downside at all to big record companies not having access to new artists, because they have no idea what to do with them now anyway.” When or how the music industry is going to understand this advice is another task, since the emerging digital distribution market has brought the cat out of the bag, how much our common sense really wants to pay for music…

Reznor explained his move by saying “It’s a stance we’re taking that we feel is appropriate … with digital technology, and outdated copyright laws, and all the nonsense that’s going on these days”. Jim Guerinot, the manager of NiN explained as “a reaction to what doesn’t exist today … It’s more just like, Hey, in a vacuum I can do whatever I want to do.”

NiN has reached two goals, reach those who weren’t familiar with the group by offering an open environment to get in touch with their works and give a reason to those who like the album and like to have more, supporting the artists directly. The Internet Distribution market has opened the last year as like we’ve experienced the .com age before! Aggregrators aid artists getting their album online through Amazon, iTunes, Amiestreet and other major music stores. Using CC-Licensing gave NiN the opportunity to increase the sales of their release.

It would be the ultimate question if this model could work for all, or those who already have their basic fundations set; although; Radiohead did a similar experiment with free downloads in October 2007. Their album, called “In Rainbows” was distributed as DRM free 160kbit MP3 format. Upon purchase, the fan could specify the desired price to buy the album directly through the website. At 3 december 2007 a limited discbox was available through pre-order and on 10 December 2007 the official digital download was no longer available at inrainbows.com. It was Radiohead’s first album available for download through the digital distribution market while it reached no.1 in the first Official U.K. Albums chart of 2008 at billboard. NME reported that “In Rainbows” created more money than their previous album “Hail to the Thief” while a further analysis of this report is available through enough cowbell.

Online distribution is a form of promotion and exposure. The physical distribution market is not alone anymore, forcing the music industry to walk other paths. Create a bling production with all the artworks, inlays, photo’s and other extra’s your fans crave and it will get sold. That’s one of the major reasons, I’ve been releasing my own productions in a similar way, through extra’s complementing the final product; because direct sales support the artist directly! Creative Commons is sure an aid in exposing any (new) artist around the block!

So, Music Industry, especially those who like to be in charge; smell the coffee, wake up! Artists are waiting for alternative ways to promote and distribute their music; getting in the billboard lists; without signing our lives away through exclusive contracts! Where is our support for alternative licensing schemes? It’s 2009 and we want our creative rights back!
